Google’s long-term intentions of making Project Tango smartphones open to the public takes a step in the right direction today with the announcement of a partnership with one of the premiere hardware manufacturers. The announcement comes with Qualcomm looking to create the processor which will be an 810 Snapdragon.
Tango developers and manufacturers will be able to start purchasing the new model of smartphones dubbed Project Tango during Q3 of this year. While these won’t be immediately available for public purchase, the hardware means a larger subset of developers will be able to purchase it.
Project Tango smartphones have been available for purchase in the past, but developers of a very small subset have been the only ones who could purchase one. There’s no word on the price of the Qualcomm powered Tango smartphone and if/when they will be available to the public, but we’re hoping it’s only a matter of time.
Just days ago, Google opened up the Project Tango to the general public with a price tag of $512. The price is 50% off from its initial launch back in April, which was an invite only purchase. You can purchase the Google Project Tango tablet through this exclusive Google Store link.
