Samsung Galaxy S3 has become an old smartphone. If you are one of its owners, you may fall victim to people’s prank. You can be called as “an old man with an old smartphone!” But you can hit back all the pranks by updating your smartphone’s operating system to Android 5.0 Lollipop and give it a new life.
Android developers JustArchi and Monster 2, the two senior members at the XDA developers, have decided to enable the users of the GT-i9300 version of Samsung Galaxy S3 to install the 5.0 Lollipop, the latest version of the Android operating system, in their smartphones. However, everything is still in the Alpha stage. That means, all the functions may not work properly. For example, the graphics, color calibration and GPS might not work as usual. However, all the other major functions, including the lock screen notifications and Material Design aesthetic, are working perfectly. So, you should definitely give it a try.
In order to update the operating system in your smartphone, you need to first download the arter97 kernel file and arter97’s Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM ZIP file. Unzip the files and transfer ROM back-up to this location: /sdcard/clockwordmod/backup. Put the kernel zip file on the SD card as well. Then go to the recovery mode on your smartphone and wipe the full system. After that, restore the back-up. As you have already stored the 5.0 software on your device, the Android Lollipop ROM will be installed. Then install the arter97 kernel file in recovery mode. Select and flash the kernel zip file which you put in the SD card earlier. Finally, reboot your Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone to complete the ROM installation process.
The arter97 kernel file is compatible with different versions of Samsung Galaxy S3, including SK-LTE (SHV-E210S), SK-3G (SHW-M440S), LG-LTE (SHV-E210L) and KT-LTE (SHV-E210L). That means, you can install the Lollipop 5.0 update into these smartphones as well!
If you really love your old Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, you must try to install the 5.0 Lollipop in it. Show the world that you might be an old smartphone owner, but that doesn’t stop you from being smarter and more tech savvy than the other people!
