Asus confirmed the follow-up to the original ZenWatch which launched three quarters ago, and the next gen smartwatch promises to be more refined and fit today’s modern trends of design and technology. The Asus ZenWatch 2 looks to provide better battery life, improved water and dust resistance, more connectivity options, and all while maintain the amazing visual appeal.
One of the biggest drawbacks with the original is the bigger and bulkier smartwatch which seems to be a thing of the past with two versions available. The Asus ZenWatch 2 will launch in two distinct sizes with the larger offering a 41mm face and the smaller a 37mm face.
The display of both models will sport a Super Amoled display and be well protected with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3. Although the processor has yet to be confirmed, leaks suggest we’ll see the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset we seen in the original ZenWatch.
The original sported both water and dustproof features, but the next edition they’ll both be even better. Asus is electing to bump up #2 to an IP67 rating which means it will be submersible in up to 9 feet of water. The battery and charging will also be getting an upgrade and charging speed with a magnetic charger.
The latest version of Android Wear along with Wi-Fi support will be featured out of the box making this much more than a standalone device than a typical smartwatch. Also featured is a Next-gen Wellness App that will become popular for those looking for a complete fitness, and robust fitness tracker.
Although the Asus ZenWatch 2 was announced, no specific release date and price details were given. We don’t expect the official details we’ll be much longer, especially with the huge consumer interest that’s already beginning to mount. We’ll bring you the confirmations as soon as we get it.
